Water Main Project - Phase 1

Estimated Start: April 2025

Estimated Completion: Fall 2025

Engineering Consultant: Veenstra & Kimm, Inc.

Contractor: United Utilities and Excavating, LLC

Project Overview: This is a City of Van Meter project located within the corporate limits of the City of Van Meter. This project includes installation of over three thousand (3,000) linear feet of 8-inch water main along Van Buren Drive, Hazel Street, De Soto Road, Feller Curve and a small portion of Arlington Avenue. This project is funded by Series 2021 bond proceeds.

This project includes installation of 8-inch water main by directional boring and open cut, hydrants, valves, water service line transfers, surface restoration, seeding, removal of existing hydrants, abandonment of existing water main, surface, restoration, seeding and miscellaneous associated work, including cleanup. The City is working with the contractor and consultant to identify parking and accessibility alternatives as well as the location of the temporary CBU. Impacted properties will be provided further information prior to commencement of the project.

There are no planned complete road closures at this time. The plans include temporary closures of one lane of traffic at a time.

Upon completion of the project, the neighborhood Cluster Mailbox unit will remain as the mail delivery system for the properties located on Arlington Avenue. The City is working with the contractor to determine the location for the permanent CBU for centralized mail delivery. Both the temporary and permanent CBUs will feature weather resistant individual locking compartments and built-in parcel lockers. The shift to neighborhood CBUs is a City-wide initiative that is most frequently seen in new developments but will be more prevalent as the City undertakes street, water and sewer rehabilitation projects within the entirety of the City.
