Recreation Foundation

The VM Recreation Foundation has completed the long-held dream of a  new recreation complex.  The “Field of Dreams” for Van Meter families and youth is a reality.    The VMRF finalized construction of Phase I before the Fall of 2006 and began hosting baseball, softball and soccer games in the Spring 2007.

Phase I of the project  included two baseball fields, two softball fields, four soccer fields and bleachers for each of the fields.  This first phase also included plans for the installation of both irrigation and drainage systems for each field plus construction of a gravel road, parking areas and chain link fencing at certain perimeters of the complex.

Phase II of the complex inlcuded the construction of a storage and concession building and perhaps lighting for one or more fields.

Future plans for the complex include playground areas, a walking trail through the timbered areas along the river and natural habitat improvement.

The successful completion of the Van Meter Recreational Complex continues to depend on the fundraising efforts and participation by the community.  As a member of this community your involvement is critical for this project’s success.  Ultimately, part of our combined legacy will be measured by the impact we have for today’s and tomorrow’s families and youth of Van Meter.  This is an opportunity for you to make a lasting mark.  If you’d like more information on sponsorships, donations or participation, please call VMRF Board President, Janice Miller,  or write to the Van Meter Recreation Foundation, PO Box 104, Van Meter, IA 50261.  Your donations are tax deductible.

The Van Meter Community Recreational Complex   provides a host of resources including youth and adult sport fields for baseball, softball and soccer.
